A small Saitek X45 problem.
« on: December 21, 2002, 06:24:50 PM »
I just bought the X45 and I generally like it.  I was fooling around with multi-mode configurations today and found that I could easily make everything work that I wanted to, but problems arose when I exited AH.  The problem was this:

I was trying to use the 3-mode slider button to configure a "fighter mode" and a "bomber mode"  Basically I wanted to be able to use the other 3-mode slider (the aux slider) to change my views in bomber mode (mode 2) from internal, to external, to bomb scope.  This I accomplished easily.  However, upon exiting AH, if the stick was still in mode 2, whatever key was bound to whatever aux mode I was in was on a loop.  So, for instance, Windows help would repeatedly pop up.  Now this repeating thing didn't happen in AH (I made a macro to test this out), so does anyone know of a fix or a work-around?

I know that AH has stick sets itself, however it does not recognize my mode button slider AND it doesn't give any indication as to which mode it's in when you switch. I'd really like to use the mode slider on my stick.

The manual claims that I can actually make stick profiles for individual games, but the "wizard" they indicate to do this cannot be found.  Again, if anyone knows how to bind an individual stick profile to an individual program, this would solve my problem.

Thank you in advance.

Are you using the saitek drivers or D's drivers?

Also the Aux slider works somewhat differently from other buttons.  When it's switched away from position one, it's as if the button is being held down.  IIRC you need to specificly set it up to pres and release the key.  (Though this is with D's drivers, so I dont know how it applies to saitek's)

Thanks for the reply.  I am using Saitek's drivers and overall I'm displeased with Saitek's software though the stick itself is great.  What I was doing was programiming a press and release when you switch aux modes.  I did a little test where I programmed a press and release for two different view modes to see if it would repeat, which it didn't.  However, it is apparent that Windows treats it as a continual press and Aces High doesn't, which is why I have this problem.  I'll probably just have to give up the idea of mapping views to the aux slider.  None of this would be a problem if I could get "Saitek Gaming Extensions" to recognize the stick so that it would only bind those commands to the aux slider for AH.  If there is any alternative to that as well I would like to hear it.

What are these D's drivers and where can I get them?  Like I said I just bought the stick and I'm unfamiliar with any alternatives.

Side note:  do you use anything to lubricate that conical hub that the spring pushes down on?  It seems to be a tad sticky.

powdered graphite OR candle wax

I stick something in there when not playing to compress spring to loosen it up faster than normal wear. Found a clamp used to secure 1/2" pve to wall fits perfectly, titlting jstick forward - it can be used as auto pilot, gas forward when in GV also..
